The Club Coach is supported by a very experienced team of senior bowlers who have considerable mentoring experience. It is recommended that beginner bowlers have several lessons before playing social bowls. This can be arranged by making an appointment with the coach. All coaching is FREE and is undertaken in a friendly supportive environment. All new bowlers are encouraged to watch the Utube beginners video before coming to their first coaching lesson.
The club also provides specialist coaching upon request.
1.Great place to start is to watch the beginners video WATCH HERE
2. This is a link to Bowls WA. It has numerous ‘drill exercises” to enable bowlers to undertake specialised practice in aspects of their bowling requiring attention. This activity is considered more beneficial than the rollup type practice session.
Scroll down the Bowls WA link page and you will see a 14 “Head Shot” practice scenario for Skips and Thirds. This is a fantastic challenge type activity more suitable for several people so they can discuss their shot choices. Knowledge of the types of shots, skips and thirds should be able to execute, is a must. Refer to the matrix sheet on the club notice board. If skips and thirds lack these shot skills refer to the drill section or consult the club coach for a personal development program.
Coaches Opinion:
A word of advice about 2 Common mistake by many players:
- Some bowlers turn their back on the delivered bowl before it stops. The team still has the mat until the bowl stops. The bowler cannot make corrections to a faulty delivery unless they known what has happened – WATCH YOUR BOWL UNTIL IT STOPS.
- Rushing and not doing their pre-bowl set up. This following is a bowling fundamental approach.
- Stand 1.5m BEHIND the mat and wait for the Skips instruction. Once they tell you your next bowl shot.
- Put the bowl on its correct bias, locate your Aim Line and Step onto the mat facing along your aim line, locate your Aim Point and LOOK at your Aim Point (not the Head), deliver your bowl with the correct weight over this spot on the green.
- Note: For your first bowl the Skip might not tell you what happened- Why? Who is bowling next?
